Afghan women to live hungry if deny sex to husband
London: Reports from Afghanistan says that it has quietly enacted a new barbaric law empowering men of Shia community of Islam religion to deny their wives for food and nourishment if they refuse to obey orders of their husbands’ regarding demands for sexual intercourse, a media report cleared on Saturday.
The legislation grants guardianship of their children solely to child’s father and grandfather and needs women to get consent of their husbands for work outside, daily newspaper The Guardian reported.
“It also in actual fact allows a rapist to stay away from legal action by just paying ‘blood money’ to the victim girl who was wounded when she was raped,” the US charity Human Rights Watch said.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai came forward to back down, protesters said the amended law still contained brutal measures and challenged country’s constitution and international treaties those it has signed up so far.
According to the latest reports, the new legislation has been supported by the hardliner Shia cleric Mr. Ayatollah Mohseni, who is supposed to have power over the voting objectives of some Shias, who are around 20% of the total population of Afghanistan.
